Last week we learnt about Anzac day and made Anzac biscuits. We learnt about Gallipoli and World War I. Ross came and showed us some hats he had that soldiers wore in WWI and he had a bayonet; it was very interesting . He had a belt that held rifle bullets – did you know the bullets came in a little case which made it easier to put into the rifle. He had a letter that was written to his grandmother telling her about the death of his uncle, it was sad to hear about what had happened to his uncle. We made Anzac biscuits, Ms Cavedon supplied us with all the ingredients needed to make the biscuits it was fun and messy. We learnt about three men who went to war; one of them was Simpson and his donkey, another was Jim Martin – who enlisted when he was 14 and another man Albert Jacka – they were all heroes to us. Then we watched the movie Gallipoli, the ending was a bit sad. It was interesting to learn about ANZAC Day.

Well, that’s what the 2010 School Captains were there to find out? It wasn’t that hard to find, to be honest there was the Mayor of City of Casey, Cr Lorraine Wreford, Paralympian gold medallist Don Elgin and lots of council staff. Ms Cavedon kindly took us – Sanja, Justin, Emma and myself ,Mason, to the Cranbourne Community Centre on Wednesday 10th March where the guest speaker Mr Don Elgin inspired us all with his speech about how he got to where he is now. (He was born without the lower part of his left leg and has represented Australia in the Paralympics games in Sydney and
Athens). He told us to never give up and to believe in yourself. If you set goals which are hard to achieve you will have your down times but when you reach your goals it seems to be the best feeling, whether you feel scared or not. You can nicely cruise along in life but if you think to aim high, your life is very interesting. All the school Captains of schools in the City of Casey were there.
For me, personally, it really made me think about how to look towards life, it gave me a different perspective on all things and it certainly made me think that there are people out there just like Don without a leg who are less fortunate than us, which I knew, but it hadn’t really struck me until I heard his story. One last thing, never take anything for granted; we probably all have, I know I have, but at least think about things before you do anything wrong.

This term 6CC have been learning about technology, when we were learning about technology , some of the things we did were: we looked at inventors, wrote about inventions , looked at how electricity works (electricity boxes), learnt about gears and cogs and the BEST was taking apart household appliances and seeing what was inside. After all that fun work Ms Cavedon decided that we should have even more fun so she enetered us in a competition called the Engquest project. For the Engquest project we could be in a group or pair. Engquest is a competiton where the groups choose an activity off the website, then they make it and hope to win.

This year the year sixes have been involved in a program called ruMAD? This stands for ‘Are You Making A Difference?’ The ruMAD? program is where you choose somthing you could be involved in to make a difference in the world. The year sixes chose poverty and homelessness on Victorian Streets. The year sixes and the teachers have chosen things to do that involve the whole school, such as 5 cent donations, Guess the Marbles in the Jar competition and ‘in your shoes program.’
5 cent donations – Classes collect 5 cents and on Friday they are collected and counted, the winning class is rewarded a Special Lunch provided by our School Canteen. We raised over $60o in donations.
Guess the Marbles in the Jar - People from 6CC would take the jar with the marbles in it around to all the classes, and if they wanted to guess they needed to pay 20 cents. The winning guess won a special science toy donated by Ms Cavedon. We raised $60 in this competition.
In Your Shoes Program – Students and parents would donate unwanted shoes, or shoes that were to small for them. Over 60 pairs of shoes were donated to the homeless.

6CC has been doing a lot of cooking lately!
We made many things including cake, muffins and even ice cream! We made these muffins because they were a part of our Earn and Learn costs. We calculated the costs of all the ingredients and cooking the muffins and then we talked about how much you pay for these in the shop. We decided to try making these muffins because they might be good to be sold at our new healthy canteen.
How to make savoury muffins.
Ingredients
¾ cup of milk
4 tbs oil
1 cup grated cheese
¼ cup parmesan cheese
50g chopped ham or 1/2 cup of zucchini
2 teaspoons sweet chilli sauce
1 egg
1 3/4 cup self raising flour .
Method:
1. Pre – heat the oven to 180°c
2. Combine milk, oil, sweet chilli sauce and eggs into a bowl and mix.
3. Sift the flour into a large bowl and add cheese and ham or zucchini
4. Pour milk mixture to flour mixture and mix until combined (DO NOT OVER MIX)
5. Place mixture inn muffin pans and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown
6. Allow it to cool down
7. Enjoy
Most of us enjoyed the muffins.
Zahraa said “The muffins were excellent and delicious!!!”
Robert said “They were nice and I would try them any day!!”
Sarah said “I loved them because it had so much flavour!!!”
Over all, everyone loved the muffins and if you’re reading this article you better write out the recipe right now.

Great way to make cash, you might think right? Well you’re wrong! It’s not as easy as you think…….It’s like in real life!
6CC has started a new program called “Earn and Learn”, focusing on how to use, handle and spend money wisely $$$. The program includes learning about what we are going to go through as young adults. We earn what we call “Mossies” which is fake paper money as opposed to real money. Every week the children in 6CC fill out our pay slips, which include:
- Positions of responsibility
- Base wage
- Tax
- Superannuation
- Rent
And the list goes on and on!!!
Also, to add on to this huge summary, we also get to make our own businesses! Hope all goes well!
